Thanks for your tip Oliver,

Unfortunately, it didn't make any difference, which I find a bit strange.
I'm still only getting 10Kbytes/sec out of my ethernut for broadcast UDP 
packets.

If it possible to do some sort of profiling  of the code. I could setup a whole 
bunch of timers and check execution times, but that sounds like it might create 
a lot of overhead.

Any ideas ?
