Indeed, that has been the intention.

I'm completely suprised at this bug. It sits there
for years and I can't remember having seen extra
bytes being transmitted...really good job, Mike.

Thanks for the commit, Oliver. You may have
realized too, that this function is crying
"Optimze me". :-)
