i didn't realise the contents of it was "eth0" until after i coded the dhcp bit. I originally put my own local host name in it, cause I couldn't see the field being used in the code anywhere. Found out pretty quick that wasn't right.

Yes, I overlooked, that Damian suggested to use
the interface name. That would not work, indeed.
