When searching a name to be put on the PCB of the first prototype
I liked the term 'nut', because it

- names something small
- you can crack it
- looks like a typo in conjunction with Ether
- all Internet domains were available
...
- has several nice and less nice meanings, keeping
   people asking about its meaning

Harald

P.S. For the less nice: When Adam Dunkel's Ethernut had been
loaded with Contiki, connected to the Internet and published
@ /., 'TrollBridge' commented: "Now go forth, Slashdot readers,
and give that server a good kick in the ethernuts!"
