Thanks Bill,

time_t  _mkgmtime (tm *timeptr)   - right under my nose...

Read the details of the list of calls many times but missed the reference to it
in the index list as there is no specific detail on it.

I needed to be able to parse a date/time on the serial port to use it to set the
RTC.

Problem is now sorted & works fine.
