[En-Nut-Discussion] Latest AVR Studio (4.12) does not recognize Egnite programmer

I just moved my stuff to a new machine and installed the latest AVR  
Studio in the process.

After installing the  latest AVR Studio I quickly discovered that my  
trusty Egnite programmer failed to work (using ICC-AVR), the led  
flashed a few times after which ICC-AVR reported a failure.

After some experimenting I found out that the stk500.exe supplied  
with AVR Studio 4.12 is the culprit, it simply fails to detect the  
programmer.

Reverting back to AVR Studio 4.0.7 solved the problem.

Any ideas?
