[En-Nut-Discussion] LAN91C111 -> DM9000 in new Ethernut?

Hello,

i have seen that the new upcoming Ethernut 3.0 uses the
DM9000 Ethernet-Controller instead of the LAN91C111 that
is used with the 2.x Ethernuts.

For me, the LAN91C111 seems to be the better solution,
because of it's more sophisticated on-chip memory management,
and the temperature range seems to be limited downwards to 0°C
with the DM9000, which makes the useage of DM9000 equipped boards
in street cabinets etc. difficult. On the other hand, the power
consumption should be a bit lower with the DM9000 (140 mA max vs.
100 mA max).

May i ask whats the reason for the switch? Availability?

And can you already tell something about the power consumption
of the 3.0 ethernuts vs. 2.x?

Best regards,

Steffen
