Hopefully Michael Fischer reads this and can provide facts.
Here's my guesswork.

As far as I can say, Segger doesn't provide enough details to
support third party tools like GDB/Eclipse. From what I've
heard, it is based on a SAM7. Considering this, it is amazingly
cheap when compared with those low cost, single chip FTDI based
solutions. Probably Segger offers it at a promotional price in
the hope that customers will buy their optional software tools.
The basic software support provided by J-Link is quite limited.
Considering this, they may not be very interested in GDB/Eclipse.

The Turtelizer 1, which egnite bundles with Ethernut 3, is nothing
but a temporary solution. Neither it will be offered separately,
nor will we put effort into GDB support.

The least cost solution definitely is the home made Wiggler clone.
However, not many PCs today come with parallel printer port.
