Further search on the web revealed that the SAM7X MAC is also known as 
AT91 EMAC module. There is a driver for the AT91 EMAC module for the 
AT91RM9200 in ucLinux.

At least it seems there are a few MAC drivers available which will help 
to write a Nut/OS AT91 EMAC driver for the SAM7X and one doesn't have to 
start from zero.
