[En-Nut-Discussion] Is function _read blocking?

Hello, All
I have a thread that receives characters from HyperTerminal. Today I decided to investigate it and marked it's entry and exit points by setting certain PORTD line to 1 and 0. I discovered that the pulse occurs only if I press button on the keyboard. There is _read function inside. Am I right that _read function is blocking?
I use Ethernut 3.9.8.
