I am, most certainly, interested in this functionality.  Sadly, current 
workloads don't allow me the time to play around with the project I had planned 
for this.

My recommendation is you present your findings and fixes to the list.  Hopefully 
it will attract attention, probably it will get some review or comment from the 
"core" developers, and at the very least it will show in the list archives for 
others interested in using it.
