It's not used. As far as I understood Daniel, the crypto engine supports algorithms only, which are relevant for symmetric encryption. The performance problem is with the asymmetric part, where the crypto engine can't help.

But I'm not an expert and Daniel is currently on holiday. He should be able to answer your questions when he is back in the office.
