Actually I expected something, which gives a brief overview about new features and important changes. So I created
http://ethernut.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/ethernut/trunk/NEWS?revision=4307
Now we have from
http://ethernut.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/ethernut/trunk/NEWS?revision=4396
===== SNIP ======
- r4192: ksk_lpc1788_sk SDRAM: Fixed I/O pin configuration of SDRAM lines
- r4193: CM3 LPC177x_8x EMC: correctly and automatically calculate bit shifting
of sdram mode register adresses for different sdram sizes and memory
mapping modes
- r4196: CM3 LPC177x_8x GPIO: Fixed GPIO pin config / port config
Port P0-7 .. P0-9 pins (W-Mode pins) are a little bit special and need
bit 7 always be set for normal operation
Fixed bug in mask handling of GPIO Port Config
- r4197: AT91 TWI: Fix RTC hangup on AT91SAM9XE CPU.
===== SNAP ======
Calling "svn log -r4192:4197" would give

===== SNAP ======
This is almost the same, isn't it?
Let's go into details: The typical user will move from 4.10 to 5.0, but 4.10 is not mentioned in NEWS. Instead the user will be informed, that
- r4197: AT91 TWI: Fix RTC hangup on AT91SAM9XE CPU.
But it had been fixed in 4.10 at r4234. Isn't that more confusing than helpful? At least I cannot see the difference to svn log.
Don't get me wrong. I see the problem for users, who want to have a quick overview. I just do not see much benefit in copying the log into an extra file, may be fixing a few typos and sorting them into the 3 categories.
May be I haven't fully understood, what you expect from NEWS.
Regards,
Harald
