As it turned out, the problem was in front of the computer.

We are a altogether a bunch of stupid and ignorant subversion users. There never had been any automatism with SVN. All those files, with the right properties set were imported from CVS, which did that automatically. At least in the Sourceforge installation.

So far, I fixed this in the trunk r4268. If you run "svn update" now, your source files should magically change to the correct EOL characters, LF on Linux/BSD and LF/CR on Windows. Even Mac OS9 will get the expected CR ending. :-)
