On the ATMega 128 you've pins 23 and 24 which are TXAL2 (output) and XTAL1
(input). So connecting pin 23 from the working ethernut board to pin 24 of
the halted ethernut board, would make the halted ethernut board run
temporarily, at which time you can change the fuses to the correct values.

BTW: I guess, you should connect the grounds together. (when using a
standard/normal power setup)
