Hi Simon,
You do right using extreme caution.
5V supply is possible only at the expansion port.
But you may have to protect IC8, I assume.
The screw terminal supply is connected to DC,
which is after the rectifier bridge but before
the regulator.
Setting jumpers on JP6 1-2 and 3-4 will disable
the diode and R26 as required.
Contacts 3 of the terminal should be connected to
minus (GND) and contact 4 to plus (7V) of your power
supply. Contact 4 is the one near the mounting hole.
To make sure you got the right contacts, supply
the board with the barrel connector and measure
the screw terminal contacts. You'll find the
same polarity there.
