For me, Advanced Serial Port Monitor
<http://www.aggsoft.com/serial-port-monitor.htm> has been more than
worth its (figurative) weight in gold.

Right, forget Hyperterminal and use Teraterm.
There are sooouuu many terminal emulators, but
none of them is simple enough. For example, Teraterm
doesn't work nice on dual screens. And all of them
start switching fonts when the wrong baudrate is
selected.
Anyone aware of a very simple one without VT100
emulation and other fancy crap? I simply want
RS232 to screen.
Harald
