So it does here. Whilst investigating the problem I commented out the 
call "NutFtpServerSession(sock);" to avoid the crash. And after some 
disruptions I forgot about that delict. Silly me!
After removing those slashes ftp download is working again as expected - 
even with firefox.

I'm sorry about causing you to spill your time.

I write log files with measurement data, and after some experimenting I 
found out that 4 files of about 120 kB fill the available space of 512 
kB. The remaining space is used by management data I assume. Up to now I 
observed no limitations.
