Just another thought on this time-out debate...

Nut/OS is claiming to be an RTOS.

From Wikipedia: "..a RTOS provides facilities which, if used properly,
guarantee that system deadlines can be met generally ("soft real-time")
or deterministically ("hard real-time")..."

Consequently no system call should block indefinitely or at least there
should always be an additional option for a time-out.

This gives the designer the choice to develop a system with predictable
response times.
