according to IANA, IP 224.0.0.0 through 239.255.255.255 is multicast address 
which do not need to perform ICMP,
http://www.iana.org/assignments/multicast-addresses
for detail we may need expert to answer.
For receive multicast, the network driver need to patch. ( this one i sure)
