That's right. But if you didn't program the 'Preserve EEPROM' fuse, your 
EEPROM settings will disappear when flashing a new image.

egnite ships the boards with the correct fuse setting (EESAVE=0).

Note, that programming a fuse means setting it to zero.


P.S. You may use basemon to read and modify the IP configuration.
