Thanks for the suggestions. I've now simply extracted the make.exe from 
the Nut/OS installer, placed it in the bin/ directory of Cygwin and 
everything works as expected. So I can confirm, that it is only make 
which causes the trouble, everything else works just fine with the 
Cygwin tools.

We're migrating to new workstations here, so I won't ditch the setup now 
and try it with the full Nut/OS installer, I can do this on the new 
machine in a few days.
