I'm mainly working on Windows too and use Git occasionally for some time
now without problems. As with Subversion, I prefer the command line
however. For those, who prefer a GUI, there is

which btw. also supports Mercurial. But let's face it: The majority of
developers are more familiar with Git than with Mercurial.
