Funny to read this now. I always had been skeptical about Luminary 
chips. My major concern was their outdated production equipment, 
although this was based on rumors and their extraordinary power 
consumption. Looks like it wasn't that far from reality. Anyway, I'm 
still watching it, because TI has the potential to enhance this family.

Depends on your preferences, of course. The SAM7XC is interesting 
because of its crypto support. We are currently evaluating the LPC17xx, 
which is quite cheap. STM recently announced the STM32L, which looks 
most interesting for low power apps. And of course there is AVR32 with 
its advanced I/O-capabilities. Unfortunately I do not know of any OS 
that makes use of this feature.
